Judith Stuart founded the LIU Brooklyn Campus Dance
Department and served as the chair from 1991 until 2007. As professor of dance she taught dance
technique, dance history and criticism, choreography and administered both an
academic and performing arts program in which she produced student, faculty and
guest artist concerts.
She served for four years on the Brooklyn Arts Council, and for fourteen years wrote dance features and criticism for the Brooklyn Phoenix weekly newspaper.
After looking at dance and dancers for many years, she became interested in capturing essential moments in dance through photography. She began studying with Stuart Fishelson and Fred Farhadi at Long Island University and considers them to this day as important mentors.
